Optometrist

                                            Optometrist

Duties and Responsibilities:
      Optometrists treat vision problems. They treat vision problems by diagnosing the problem and then prescribing the correct eyeglasses, contact lenses and vision therapy. Some optometrists specialize in industrial vision safety and environmental care. Most optometrists are self-employed, however many work for hospitals, government agencies, optical manufacturers, or universities.

Salary:  $78,000                                         



Education:
      Students in high school should take AP or BI classes in math, science, and English. Before entering an optometry school at least two years of college in a pre-professional program is required. Optometry school is four years. Optometrists need to pass state exams before starting training or practice.



I wouldn’t want to be an optometrist because it doesn't catch my attention. I rather be a doctor who does surgeries.

Optician

                          Optician
Duties and Responsibilities:
          Opticians fit and give out eyeglasses for patients based on prescriptions. Optician’s help the customer’s choose eyeglass frames and measure their faces so that correct size frames can be ordered. Opticians own retail store or work for an optical store.  Some also work for optometrists and ophthalmologists who sell glasses.

Salary: $19,000 - $40,000                                          


Education:
          Students should take high school courses in physics, algebra, mechanical drawing, and geometry. They need to have a high school diploma or GED certificate to begin training as an optician.  Students either complete an approved two-year course at a school of optician, or they can complete an approved three year on-the-job apprenticeship.

I wouldnt want to be an optician because it isnt a career i am interested in. I want to work in a hospital or clinic as a nurse or doctor.

Optical Laboratory Technician

                                Optical Laboratory Technician

Duties and Responsibilities:
          Optical Laboratory Technicians grind and fit eye lenses into frames according to the prescription. Technicians set lens grinding machine so that lens blanks are ground and polished. Some ophthalmic technicians work in optical laboratories or for optometrists or ophthalmologists.  Many work in retail stores that have optical departments.

Salary: $15,000 - $20,000                                   


Education:

          A high school diploma or GED certificate is needed to begin optical laboratory training.  Training schools last from 6 months to a year. Some retail stores provide on-the-job training. 

I wouldnt want to as an optical laboratory technician. This job isn't what i would like to major in. It doesn't seem like something i would like to do as a career.
